Deeksha Singh: Students in the most national business schools are taught to identify, understand and analyze the global business environment which is becoming more and more complex these days because of the increasing globalization. So every professional – they need to understand the commonalities as well as especially the differences that exist between nations to make a better business decisions. All the lectures – they are already there in the course site, the students have the liberty to watch them whenever they want at their own time. They have to do certain case analysis pertinent to the topic of the week. They are also going to discuss in a forum with other students to discuss certain questions which are relevant to the topic of the week and thereby begin learning by sharing their thoughts on public forum in the course site. And, of course, there would be some quizzes and tests for me to analyze how well they have been reading and performing each week.

Another feature of this most national business schools are the simulation exercises that students actually enjoy a lot. These exercises for these students in the real world situations and they have to then make decisions on the basis of what they have learned in that week. Many students have come back and they have said they really, really love these simulation exercises. They help them – these exercises help them to use the theoretical aspects that they have learned during that week.

The quality of the work that I receive from the students is amazing. When I read the answers I feel proud to say: “These are my students.” And I have also learned a lot of things from them because most of these students, they come from diverse backgrounds. They are sitting in different locations, they come with different experiences in life which really helps us to bring new ideas to the table, especially in the discussion forums. The students doing the scores learn that diversity of the global  business space; they are then exposed to how these differences in political systems, economic systems, social systems, how they impact business practices across the globe. They learn to analyze these differences as future managers in multinational corporations. For example, before entering a country for investment purposes, they have to do a benefit/risk and cost analysis on different facets. For example they have to look at the macroeconomics stability of the country. They have to look at the growth – potential growth opportunities. You need to have a very open mindset – a global mindset.

And then on the environment, since many students, they come from diverse backgrounds, sometimes they’re also outside the United States or they come from different countries and they have come here for education – that really enriches the learning experience of other students. It aptly fits in the broad scheme of management of multinational business. I have the policy that you can contact me 24/7 and this is my general rule although I write it in my syllabus that I’ll reply to any e-mails, any phone calls within 24 hours but on an average I take only 4 hours to reply. The students have a lot of opportunity to interact with each other, especially during the discussion forums which are open every week through all the semester so they are actually required to participate and that gives them immense opportunity to talk to each other, share with – I guess with each other – they also learn to respect other’s opinions, even if they differ from what they are thinking. And that’s a way healthy learning environment, uh, that platform that I think – it’s amazing.
