The Higher Education Teaching graduate certificate offered at the GSE is designed for individuals teaching or interested in teaching in higher education who want to improve their skills and knowledge specifically to better meet the needs of their adult students. Through a tailored curriculum, they will come to understand the adult learner, including the social roles, psychological characteristics, and learning patterns that influence educational practice.

The twelve-credit online program is designed for those teaching or interested in teaching in formal and informal settings such as corporate, non-profit, community-based, and healthcare organizations who want to improve their skills and knowledge to better meet the needs of their adult learners.

The Adult ESL and Literacy Education graduate certificate offered at the GSE is designed for individuals who are working or are interested in working in adult basic education settings and want to improve their skills and knowledge to better meet the needs of adult students. Enrolled students will explore approaches to effective reading and writing instruction for both native and nonnative adult speakers of English, as well as examine how research, policy, and funding have shaped the field in terms of educational opportunities for adult learners.

The 9-credit, non-degree graduate certificate in Educational Technology offered at the GSE is designed to prepare educators to effectively integrate current and developing technologies into various learning environments. The program is available to students currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program at Rutgers University, as well as non-matriculated candidates that already hold a bachelor’s degree. The intended audience includes teachers, college or university instructors, school administrators, or other interested parties who want to learn more about the use of web-based technologies in educational contexts.

The Educational Technology for Adult Education graduate certificate offered at the GSE is designed for individuals who are working or are interested in working in adult education settings and seek to learn to effectively integrate current and developing technologies into their practice. Applicants to the program often come from diverse backgrounds but share the goal of improving their skills and knowledge to better meet the needs of the adult student. Enrolled students will be introduced to approaches for teaching with digital tools, and can expect to dive deeper into topics including web-based multimedia design and the development of digital e-learning environments.

The 12-credit, non-degree graduate certificate in Gifted Education offered at the GSE is designed to help New Jersey educators, districts, and parents meet the challenges of educating gifted learners. This special program draws on input from district superintendents, teachers, parents, the Educational Information and Resource Center, and the statewide advocates, including the New Jersey Association for Gifted Children. The curriculum, developed in alignment with state and national standards, addresses the social and emotional development of the gifted child, curriculum design and implementation, pedagogy, instructional strategies, and the development and administration of a gifted education program. All courses in the program are 7-weeks long, so teachers can finish in one academic year!

The Human Resources Development graduate certificate offered at the GSE is designed for those working or interested in working in human resources and who want to improve their skills and knowledge specifically regarding learning and teaching in the workplace. The coursework in the program will focus on skills, concepts, and strategies to improve the adult teaching and learning components of human resource development in organizations. Students will explore career and workforce development through a research-grounded lens of adult and continuing education theory and practice.

The 15-credit, non-degree graduate certificate program in Maker Education offered at the GSE is designed to help educators and practitioners receive the education and resources necessary for developing competence and confidence to start, supervise, or use a Makerspace in a school, community center, or other learning space. The program is intended for participants to gain proficiency in maker-based learning activities or projects, including the development of curricula and assessments meeting common standards in STEM subjects. Participants will also explore how maker-centered projects can be leveraged as a vehicle for meaningful, discovery-based learning in mathematics, science, computer science, as well as integrated STEM/STEAM curricula.

The Bilingual/Bicultural non-degree endorsement online program is designed for individuals who possess a New Jersey Standard teaching certificate or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in mathematics, science, social studies, English as a second language, or elementary education and who wish to earn the Bilingual/Bicultural endorsement. Candidates will be recommended for the Bilingual/Bicultural endorsement upon completion of the 12-credit program. All 12 credits in the endorsement program must be completed online at Rutgers University.

The non-degree English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement program offered at the GSE provides candidates with a foundational understanding of English language learning in K-12 settings; of English language instruction and assessment strategies; and of the relationships between language and culture in multilingual and diverse communities. The program is usually completed exclusively online and is designed for individuals who already possess a New Jersey Standard Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in a content field or elementary education. Candidates holding a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility (CE) must successfully complete both their 15-credit program and an alternate route program prior to being recommended for the ESL endorsement.
